THE STORY OF
ASHA CANDLE CO.
I'm Shannon - high school teacher, candlemaker, and woman behind Asha Candle Co. I've been obsessed with candles for as long as I can remember. No ambiance is complete without the perfect lighting and music. As I got older, I found I could no longer tolerate the overpowering, artificial scents of mass-produced candles. I was getting headaches and noticing a residue in the air that did not seem quite right. I did some research and learned some alarming facts about mass-produced candles. I decided it was time to ditch the paraffin and dyes and burn something cleaner in my home. So I began making my own soy candles with clean ingredients and dreamed of one day starting a business.
Then, in 2018 my husband Jason was diagnosed with terminal cancer and my whole world changed in an instant. I dropped everything and immersed myself in all things melanoma, determined to be the best cancer wife possible. J took a different approach. He used his diagnosis as fuel and immediately got to work fulfilling his lifelong dream of making a solo record. In between harsh, invasive treatments he wrote songs and spent his days in the recording studio with friends creating music and sharing stories. He chose to maximize every second he had left on this earth doing what he loved with the people he loved. It was truly inspiring.
Jason died in 2020 but not before finishing his record. It's a beautiful record. In those two short years we packed in a lot of life together. He taught me how to live in the present without the fear of what's to come. How to find joy and beauty in everything. How to dream big and overcome even the biggest of obstacles. How to love unconditionally. So with J as my inspiration and partner on the other side, I took the leap and began Asha Candle Co two years later. And I can hear him cheering me on.
Why Asha? My niece nicknamed me Asha as a little one and I've been Asha ever since to her and her sister. It also happens to mean hope which is what my story is all about. I hope my candles fill your home with love and light and inspire you to follow your own wildest dreams.
